The Second Amendment
Who wrote it? United States President James Madison
Why was it written? For the security of a FREE state and country
Does it really mean unrestricted ownership of firearms? YES!
There should be no question on what 2A means:
The Constitution and amendments were written to be understood by the voters at the time it was written.
Our for Fathers were accountable to the voters even then and there was no question of what it meant.
How do we know right to bear arms meant the people and not military?
Because their State constitutions of the period describe the right more in depth.
For example:
NY State Constitution July 26th 1788
That the People have a right to keep and bear Arms; that a well regulated Militia, including the body of the People capable of bearing Arms, is the proper, natural and safe defense of a free State;
Dissecting the 2nd Amendment :
Prefatory clause = Announces the purpose of the 2A "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State."
Operative clause = It’s the description of the right "The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
“Right of the People” is used three times in the bill of rights and It refers to individual rights, not 'collective' rights, or rights that may be exercised only through participation in some corporate body."
Bottom line, freedom to have the right to bear arms was intended as freedom of press is unrestricted and in cases of abuse, the abuser is responsible.
The Unorganized Militia is authorized the bear arms. That Unorganized Militia is the people or in other words "you".
The Unorganized Militia is still in U.S. law under 10 U.S.C. § 246
What to do?
1. Never give up on the 2nd Amendment and speaking up for it no matter how uncomfortable it may be
2. Education of yourself, and others on the topic so you can articulate and defend what our Forefathers intended
3. Profess your stance on the second amendment publicly and act respectfully to opposing opinions
4. Support your pro-second amendment legislative representatives on local, state and federal levels
5. Legally exercise your 2nd Amendment rights and pledge to only use your legally owned firearms for defense
6. Properly educate your mature children in gun safety and gun ownership rights.
